Büyükelçinin Mesajı

Dear Fellow Citizens and Latvian Friends,

I commenced my duties as the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Latvia as of 1 September 2022.

I am very proud and pleased to represent our country in Latvia, with which we have friendly relations and alliance ties.

Türkiye recognized Latvia in 1925. The first Turkish Embassy in the Baltics was opened in Riga in 1929. The occupation of Latvia by the Soviet Union in 1944 was not recognized by Türkiye.

Our diplomatic relations were re-established on 22 October 1991, just after Latvia regained its independence.

Our relations with our NATO ally Latvia have been built upon strong foundations and are carried forward in line with our common goals, both at the bilateral level and in international platforms.

We will continue our efforts to further develop and strengthen our relations with Latvia in all fields, especially in political, economic, commercial areas as well as cooperation in defence industry.

The Turkish Cemetery in the city of Cēsisis another sign of the existing friendship ties between the two countries.

Our country also ranks among the most preferred tourism destinations of Latvians. We are very pleased to host many Latvian tourists in our country every year.

Our Embassy stands ready to provide every kind of assistance to the Turkish citizens living in Latvia in case of need.

I wish to meet with our citizens on various occasions during my tenure in Riga, and on behalf of my colleagues and on my own behalf, I convey my best wishes for your well-being.
